Monday         WORLD BOOK WEEK

Phonics

Phase 1:

Robot posting. Ask your child to find the picture card with a particular picture on it and post it through robot’s tummy. You might want to pick the objects beginning with the same sound eg, dog, dinner, dinosaur etc.

LO: To listen to a favourite book

Ask an adult to read a book that you might find a bit tricky to read. Snuggle in and listen!

(In school we are looking at The Wizard of Oz)

 

Maths

LO: To place the characters in order of size

Higher and Middle Ability: Cut out the characters from the Wizard of Oz and place them in order of size.

Lower ability: explore characters/teddies that are different sizes. Adult to model appropriate vocabulary eg big/small,  tall/short.

 

Food Technology

LO: To make and ice scarecrow biscuit

Follow the instructions and make biscuits in the shape of a character from your favourite book.

Phonics

Phase 1:

Phase 3: Piggy bank – cut out and stick the words that contain the ‘ar’ sound.

 

Phase 5: Sorting hard and soft ‘c’ sounds. Beware there are several pages, so please look through before printing.

LO: To watch the Wizard of Oz film

To watch a film of your favourite story if this film is too long.

 

Science

LO: To make a tornado in a sensory bottle

Use an empty plastic bottle of any size. Put some small animals/house/people inside (if you can!), Sprinkle in some glitter. Fill the bottle with water. Fit the lid tightly. Swirl it around and watch the objects move. Talk about the tornado in the Wizard of Oz story.

 

PE Enrichment

Our activity this term is going to Ifield Woodlands. Put on some sturdy boots or wellies and go for a walk - even if it’s raining – find some puddles to jump in! Have some fun. Encourage your child to take some photographs (developing their  ICT skills).

Sunflowers grow in Kansas where Dorothy lived. Look around your house and find some things that you could use to make a 3D sunflower. Do you have a straw for the stem? What could you use to join things together?

Make some instruments – rice in a sealed yoghurt pot; elastic bands around a tissue box; upturned saucepans and wooden spoons. Play your instruments in time to the beat using songs from the Wizard of Oz.
