At Ifield School we teach the Letters and Sounds synthetic phonics programme from Reception through to Year 6. Pupils continue to learn phonic skills throughout their school lives. It aims to build pupils’ speaking and listening skills in their own right, as well as to prepare pupils for learning to read by developing their phonic knowledge and skills. If a pupil was able to acquire phonic skills appropriate to their age by the end of Year One, they would complete a phonics screening check.
