Measuring length using standard and non-standard units.

Please see the worksheets for different abilities in the separate folders. Choose activities the most suitable for your child.

Monday

Hard: Watch and discuss PowerPoint: How to use a ruler.

Practice using a ruler and measure different length crayons on the worksheet: Hard-Measuring in centimetres.

Easy: Watch and discuss PowerPoint Long and short

Look around your house. Find short and long objects. Compare short and long objects. Order them from the shortest to the longest.

Worksheet: Colour by size.

Medium: Watch and discuss the PowerPoint: Mystery Mouse Investigating Length.

Measure crocodiles using paper clips/cubes/buttons. How many buttons long is your crocodile? Find shorter/longer. Record your results using appropriate numerals.

 

 Wednesday

Hard: See the worksheet: Chocolate-bar-measuring

Easy: See the worksheet: Measuring caterpillar lengths.

Medium: See the worksheet Measuring caterpillar lengths. Measure caterpillars using paper clips/cubes/buttons. How many buttons long is your caterpillar? Find shorter/longer. Record your results using appropriate numerals.

 

Thursday

Hard: Find objects around the house that measure 5cm, 10 cm, 15cm, 20 cm and 50 cm. Take photos.

Medium: See the worksheet: African animal measuring.

Easy: Practice measuring with non-standard units, such as buttons, paper clips, cubes, the same size Lego blocks, etc…

Watch and discuss PowerPoint: Easy Sophie Sunflowers. 

Complete the worksheet: Easy -Sophie- Sunflowers- measuring.

 

Friday

Easy: See the worksheet: African animal measuring

Medium: Se the worksheet: How many feet.

Hard: Choose 3 activities from the worksheet: Measuring Length Challenge cards.
