LO: To be able to spell Common Exception words.

 

Starter

We are practising spelling common exception words. This do not follow the usual spelling rules so they need to be learned by sight. Use the Look, cover, write and check sheet to practise the spellings.

 

Activities

Print out the Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check sheet to practise the spellings below.

 

Lower ability – the, a, do, to, today, of, said, says, are, were, was.

Middle and higher ability - find, mind, behind, old, cold, gold, hold, told, every, everybody.

 

Maths

 

LO: To begin to understand multiplication

 

Starter

The children are learning how to use repeated addition to add groups of objects together. They will then learn how to write the repeated addition number sentence as a multiplication.

 

Share the Power Point multiplication with the children. Check they know how many groups of objects there are and how many objects there are in each group. You can use Lego, pencils or other small toys to make the groups to help your child.

 

Then try the activity below.

Starter

Share the Capital Letters and Full Stops Power Point with your child. Work through each example ensuring they understand how and when to use a capital letter and a full stop. Print out the relevant sheet and check your child understands how to complete it.

Starter

Below you will find a range of experiments that can be done with food.  Choose the experiment that interest your child and support them in carrying it out. Encourage them to use their observational skills to explain what they think is happening.

Starter

The festive season is nearly here. Today we are going to make some reindeer biscuits. Your child will learn how to weigh, combined ingredients and roll out dough.  You can find the recipe sheet in the resources.

 

Activities

Lower ability – Support your child with the reading of the recipe and the weighting out of ingredients.

Middle ability – Encourage your child to read the recipe and follow the instructions. They may need help with weighing the ingredients.

Higher ability – Encourage your child to read the recipe and follow the instructions taking care to weigh the ingredients carefully.

LO: To understand why children were evacuated during the war.

 

Starter

Our History topic this term World War 2. We are going to find out more about why children were evacuated during the war.

 

Share the Evacuation Power Point with your child and discuss the affects evacuation may have had on the children. How would they have felt if they had to leave their parents? Then complete the activity below. You have an Evacuee Suitcase Information Sheet to help you.

 

Activities

Lower Ability – As middle and higher ability but use the CIP sheets to help with the writing of the labels.

Middle and higher ability – Print out the evacuee suitcase sheet. Use the information sheet to research what children needed to pack when they were evacuated. Draw and label the items on the sheet.

LO: To know the times tables

 

Starter

We are trying to improve our mental calculation skills. We are learning our times tables to help with this. The following games will make this a fun way to learn them. Click on the link and open up the game. Click on the X truck.

Starter

The following video is a fitness version of the 12 days of Christmas. This involves arm and leg movements. If your child is unable to do the leg movements. They can join in by doing the arm movements. This will help them develop control and coordination.

LO: To be able to retell the Christmas story

 

Starter

Recap on the Christian Christmas nativity story by sharing the Nativity Power Point.

 

Activities

Lower ability – match the labels to the correct part of the nativity scene.

Middle ability – cut out the pictures and stick them in the correct order so the story makes sense. 

Higher ability – write a sentence for each picture. Don’t forget to use a capital letter and a full stop.

LO: To begin to understand why food was rationed during the war.

 

Starter

Share the Power Point Rationing with your child and discuss why it was necessary to ration food during the war. Next look at the appropriate level Rationing Information Sheet and read through with your child. Then look at the questions and encourage them to answer them verbally.

We have been learning about our feelings and how these feelings can be put into different categories. Please see the Zones of Regulation Poster for further information. The activity below enables your child to select a feeling and think about what strategies they could use that would be helpful in managing this feeling.
