Ifield Smile has developed an innovative new resource called 'Smiley
Boxes' to support inclusion in mainstream schools. They are available on half termly loan
free of charge to Gravesham Schools. Staff come into the Centre to discuss their child's need to
ensure that the most suitable box is selected. Smiley Boxes are the marriage of a six week programme
of differentiated work supplied together with all the resources required to carry the programme
out. This means that a child functioning at a much lower level than their peers can now follow
a supplementary programme which is suited to their needs within the mainstream class.
The Smiley Boxes are designed to be user friendly for staff and fun for the children. Their consistent popularity has demonstrated their value to the mainstream schools in Gravesham. Ifield Smile has developed 40 different Smiley Boxes to date, covering literacy, numeracy, thinking skills and social skills.
Ifield Smile has also developed 'Advisory Smiley Boxes', which are boxes of advice and practical resources to inform school staff on such issues as Drugs Education, Educating Traveller Children. Bereavement Issues and Autism Awareness. These have all been designed in consultation with other professionals who are experts in those fields.
