Specialist Teaching and Learning Service and Local Inclusion Forum Team (LIFT)

Ifield SMILE Centre accommodates a team of specialist teachers who provide support in early years settings and mainstream schools to improve outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities in the Gravesham district.

The Local Inclusion Forum Team (LIFT) meets each term at the SMILE Centre and offers advice and guidance for young people with special educational needs.  The LIFT meeting co-ordinates and arranges specialist assessment, support and intervention for children and young people where this is appropriate.  The meeting may also provide opportunities for teachers and support staff to have strategies and interventions modelled by specialist teaching staff to help embed them within a pupil’s usual learning environment.  LIFT meetings are also attended by representatives from agencies who can also contribute to the discussion including educational psychologists, Early Help workers and Local Authority officers.
