01.07.07 Pam Jones - Kent Headteacher of the Year
Pam Jones, our headteacher, has been honoured with the prestigious award of ‘Kent Headteacher of the Year 2007’, by KCC and the Kent Messenger Group. The award was open to all headteachers from primary, secondary and special schools.

The award not only recognises Pam’s excellent work over the past year, but is a tribute to all the staff of Ifield School who have done so much to support her and contribute to the success of Ifield School, ensuring that the school lives up to its aim of “only the best for Ifield”.

Congratulations to Pam and all her staff.

01.07.07 Building Work at Ifield School
With Phase 1 and Phase 2 now complete, Phase 3 of the building programme is well under way. We are enjoying our KS1 and KS3 classrooms, and the new specialist classrooms including Textiles, Food Technology and ICT Suite are up and running. What we used to call the Main School has had more than a massive face lift. In fact the whole of the roof had to be redone, with major structural alterations being necessary. Included in this phase are five KS2 classrooms, all of which are at the latter stage of having the interior decoration completed. Across a new corridor is a sizeable hydrotherapy pool with accompanying changing rooms, toilets, hygiene areas etc.

The hall extension almost doubles the size of the previous hall and will be a tremendous asset to the school with its vastly increased capacity. Ceilings are already in place and the old part of the hall has been refurbished and redecorated. The scope of the woks originally did not include the Kitchens, but it became clear that it would be of benefit to the School in the long run to carry out some works at this stage as the condition of the roof and windows of the kitchens were in desperate need of repair.

Where the old KS1 were will be the new admin area with the Main Reception and Main Entrance to the School. The Head Teacher’s, Deputy’s, Bursar’s office together with the reception office, Medical rooms, stock room, reprographic rooms etc will all be housed in this area of the School. Along corridors from here will be access to a number of rooms which will be able to cater for meetings, therapies, welcoming areas, changing rooms and toilets together with a site manager’s office plant rooms and service areas. This area is well on the way.

The main gate will be electronically controlled from this reception area. There will be a separate pedestrian gate, and all visitors will come to this entrance. A canopy is being erected under which pupils staff, escorts, parents etc can access the Secondary School Entrance which is the on that we are presently using as the Main Reception Area and Entrance to the School.

Landscaping and replanting continue as areas become complete.

01.07.07 Ifield School achieves Specialist School Status
We are delighted to have achieved Specialist Status in Communication and Interaction. Funding will help support pupils’ learning through the development of a purpose built life skills centre including kitchen, bedroom and bathroom for developing independence skills in real life settings, additional resources and an additional speech and language therapist amongst many other exciting things.
