Pupils > Healthy Schools
Ifield School became and accredited healthy school in January 2007.
Being a healthy school involves working on four core themes:
+ PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, Education)
+ Healthy eating
+ Physical activity
+ Emotional health and wellbeing.
Here are some examples of our healthy eating school work:
Healthy Eating
We teach our pupils about healthy eating in PSHE lessons, food technology lessons and in assemblies. We have a SNAG (School Nutritian Action Group) which discusses thing to do with healthy eating. Younger pupils participate in free fruit for schools scheme. Year 11 operate the tuckshop and the food sold is based on the new government standards. We also work in partnership with our school cook to ensure that all school meals meet those standards. Students are also encouraged to drink water throughout the school and - fizzy drinks are not allowed in school or on school trips.
RealCare Baby Programme
Students in years 10 and 11 work through a structured programme using our computerised baby which is called Poppy. They gain certificates for looking agter her in school and at home.
Theatre in Education
We use theatre and drama activities to educate our students in drugs education
Safety in Action
Year 7 students compete in an annual safety competition with other special needs schools which is run by a number of safety professionals including the police, road safety and fire brigade.
Social Skills
Students learn social skills through circle time and turn taking activities
Physical Activities
All our students have access to over two hours of physical activies per week. PE lessons, inter-school competitions, sports clubs, lunchtime clubs, KS3&4 tutorials, lower school playtimes, lower school swimming, outdoor education and residentials.
We are also part of the Gravesham Sports Partnership which offers our pupils inclusive opportunities in sport with mainstream schools.
